Fundraising 2013 Memorial Day marks the beginning of our fundraising season. This year all funds raised at all events will be split 50/50 between Shriners Hospital for Children-Springfield and The Ronald McDonald House of Springfield. (Now known as The Ronald McDonald Charities of Connecticut and Western Massachusetts.) These are two local organizations who do wonderful work in our community. Here is some information about the wonderful work they both do!
Shriners Hospitals for Children® — Springfield 516 Carew St. Springfield, MA 01104 Shriners Hospitals for Children in Springfield is part of a network of non-profit hospitals across North America. Children with orthopedic conditions, burns, spinal cord injuries, and cleft lip and palate are eligible for care and receive all services in a family-centered environment, regardless of the patients’ ability to pay. Shriners hospitals also provide for the education of physicians and other healthcare professionals. In addition, Shriners hospitals conduct research to discover new knowledge that improves the quality of care and quality of life of children and families. Shriners hospitals are owned and operated by Shriners International. Patients must be minors under the age of 18 and are not required to have any familial affiliation with the Shriners order nor Freemasonry. This mission is carried out without regard to race, color, creed, sex or sect, disability, national origin or ability of a patient or family to pay. The Ronald McDonald House of Springfield now known as The Ronald McDonald House Charities of Connecticut and Western Massachusetts. ® 34 Chapin Terrace Springfield, MA 01107 The mission of The Ronald McDonald House of Springfield is to provide a home away from home for the families of children who are being treated in area hospitals. The House provides a setting for families to receive emotional support. The House accommodates these people at an affordable rate, regardless of income. The reality is that 80% of families staying there can’t pay anything. It is their policy to never turn away a family due to their inability to pay. While they are very fortunate to have the support of the McDonald’s Corporation, more than 60% of their funding comes from individuals like you, corporate donors, community organizations, and special fundraising events. Our funds raised will directly benefit The Springfield House.
But wait there's more, turn over for page four!
50/50 Raffles Each weekend now through Labor Day, we will have our 50/50 raffles to benefit Shriners Hospital for Children-Springfield and The Ronald McDonald House Of Springfield. Tickets will be available at the scheduled events of bingo, pokeno, horseshoes, and darts. The winner will be drawn at the end of the event, except for bingo and pokeno tickets. This drawing will be before pokeno on Sunday mornings, on holiday weekends the drawing will be before pokeno on Monday morning. Take a chance and support two great organizations!
WHAT'S THE BUZZ ABOUT? It’s fun, for a good cause and open to all ages. Sunday, June 9th at Gillette Stadium. The One Mission Kid's Cancer Buzz-Off is a fun and unforgettable event where participants shave their heads in honor and support of kids with cancer. Participants raise money by asking family and friends to make a donation in exchange for their promise to shave their heads. Proceeds from the Kid’s Cancer Buzz-Off benefit Boston Children's Hospital and the life-changing care and vital programs and services they provide to help kids beat cancer. Our own Cheryl Fedorczuk from site 313 will be buzzing off her beautiful hair to raise money for this worthy cause. If you would like to donate, see Cheryl on site 313, or drop your donation at the office.
Pull Tab Drive Please donate all can pull tabs, aluminum foil, and aluminum foil tins to Jody at site 302. These will help raise funds for the Shriners.
